The Memphis Baseball Academy (MBA) announced today that Former Major League Pitcher David West has been named Director of Pitching. After a stellar career at Craigmont High School (Memphis), West was drafted by the New York Mets in the 4th round of the 1983 draft. Regarded by many as the Mets’ top pitching prospect, West made his major league debut in 1988 after a dominating season in which he went 12-4 with a 1.80 ERA and 143 strikeouts.

West’s Major League career spanned 10 seasons while playing for the New York Mets (1988-89), Minnesota Twins (1989-92), Philadelphia Phillies (1993-96), Fukuoka Daiei Hawks-Japan (1997) and Boston Red Sox (1998). He pitched in two World Series including with the 1991 World Series Champion Minnesota Twins and with the 1993 Philadelphia Phillies.

As an accomplished Major League Pitcher and highly regarded instructor, West’s baseball knowledge, experience and passion for the game will greatly enhance Memphis Baseball Academy’s commitment to player development.
